Fabriqué en France

About a year ago my mom sold my grandparents’ apartment in France. It was necessary, but very bittersweet. We have fond memories of the apartment and struggled to let it go. My mom and I also had furniture that we wanted to keep in the family.  We used some of the money from the sale to ship the family pieces to the state.

It sounds so much easier than it was. It took almost a year to get everything. And then everything arrived in Thursday! I have boxes of treasure to go through! I am so excited!

There were two pieces of furniture that I really wanted. The first was this bookshelf. It sat in my grandparent’s petite salon (den) for years and I always loved it. I never thought we would be able to bring it to the States and yet here it is!

I could not wait to put books into it. This is not surprising, I know.

It shocked me that I was not able to fill the entire bookshelf with books.  Actually, I am disappointed!

The second piece was the telephone stand. I spend many hours talking on the phone that was on this stand. I love that it still has the same tassel and keychain on the key that my grandmother had. I cried a bit when I opened the drawers. It smelled like the apartment in France and I cherish that smell.

I was so excited to make these pieces my own that I did not even polish them. That is my chore for the winter break. I did go through my millions of books and purged quite a few.
