Never say to yourself that it can’t get worse

Lesson learned.

Never say it!

Never say the worse is over.

Never say it can only get better.

Here is the story.

On Monday my parents and I were leaving their house, rushing around like normal. My mom stepped off the curb to get in the car, fell, and broke her leg.

Her leg!

Her femur right above the knee!

We called 911 and the calvary  arrived. The firemen took care of my mom in the street and loaded her into the ambulance.

The brace the firemen out on.

The brace the firemen put on.

I stayed with my mom in the ER until 2am. She was in pain, but they drugged her up good (Dilaudid and Valium). Poor mom was in the ER for almost 24 hours waiting for a bed to open up.

The orthopedic surgeon said the cardboard brace was crap. this one was much better.

On Tuesday she was finally given a room. On Wednesday she had surgery- a plate with a few screws. She felt so much better and was able to move her leg with less pain.

I stayed at the hospital during my mom’s surgery. They hospital had the neatest system for those waiting on a surgery patient. You had to check in with the surgery concierge, given them your cell phone number, and then you received text updates on the surgical patient. Loved this!

Mom was moved to a rehab facility last night. Who knows how long she will be there. Personally I would hope she stays there for as long as possible. The facility is nice, she has friendly roommates, and the staff seems great. Mom complains about the food already and has already started physical therapy.  She is not happy about this!

The rehab facility is very close to home and that makes it super easy to go see her. Of course, her requests are already getting to be a pain. But this too will pass.

Oh crap!

I hope I did just jinx myself.
