The Aviator’s Wife

I was excited to read The Aviator’s Wife by Melanie Benjamin. I come from a family of pilots and have flown out of Lindbergh Field (San Diego Airport) a million times. I knew the book was historical fiction and learning more about Charles Lindbergh intrigued me.

To bad the book was a bore. I felt the wife was whining all the time. I thought Charles Lindbergh was a jerk. I have read a bit about Lindbergh before and knew he was not the most friendly of people. I knew he was a Nazi sympathizer. I knew they had a child kidnapped and murdered.

But since he is an American hero, I really want to like him. What he did for aviation is amazing. His wife was the first female licensed glider pilot in the United States and often Lindbergh’s co-pilot. Both Lindbergh and his wife accomplished extraordinary feats. Too bad this book did nothing for them.
