I am 39 today!

Usually my birthday is horrible. I always build up the day and end up being let down. I try not to get my hopes up, but I fail every time. I wish I could not get my expectations up and yet every year I do.

This year my birthday exceeded my expectations.

Wahoo!!!!!!!

My day started with breakfast with friends. I thought I was meeting with one friend and she surprised me by inviting two others. It was a great breakfast. I am not an easy to surprise and I never expected to be surprised. I love surprises!!!!

From breakfast I moved to lunch with another friend. We went to a great Middle Eastern restaurant. I even got two pieces of baklava since it was my birthday. I left with a very full tummy and a huge smile on my face.

I needed some time to let my stomach digest, so I came home and returned phone calls and text messages from friends and family. I knew I needed to be ready for dinner.

Dinner was the best part of my day. First, my dad was around. He missed my birthday last year and I was so happy he stuck around this time. Second, my mom was feeling well enough to not only go out to dinner, but to be able to eat. Those two things would have made my birthday perfect, but it only got better. My parents took me to a favorite restaurant, Cafe Sevilla. This place is always fun and delicious. We shared a couple of appetizers (ceviche and spicy mushrooms) and each had an amazing dinner (steak, pork chops, and of course paella).

And then the ice on the cake.

Or maybe I should say the firework in the bread pudding.

IMG_5364No one in my family is big on dessert, but we were all fighting for this one. It was a total surprise. I had no idea that my dad had talked to the waitress.

My mom got mad at my dad that he ran his finger through the chocolate, so he fixed it in his own unique way.

To make the day perfect, my dad took his first picture with an iPhone. Impressed?
