Chet and Bernie

Today my mom and I went to Vroman’s Bookstore to see the author of the Chet and Bernie series- Spencer Quinn.

The Chet and Bernie series is a recent discovery of mine. It is a mystery series about a private eye, Bernie, and his dog, Chet. The twist is that Chet is the narrator and is hilarious. He thinks like a dog, talks like a dog, and is distracted by almost anything… like a dog! The series is easy to read and a lot of fun. It is a nice change from all the Chick Lit, vampires, dystopian societies, and whatever else is out there.

I was so surprised that my mom went. I have mentioned her track record off bailing on plans and to be honest I expected her to stay true to her routine. But when I got to her house this evening, she was ready to go. We had coffee and pastries before the author appearance and she was excited to go to dinner afterwards.

I need to remember the good things and not focus on the bad. I need to be thankful of the times that my mom feels good enough to go out with me.

Today’s Gratitude
– Mom not bailing
– a great author appearance
– not putting the miles on my car
– teaching one subject, one grades, and finally getting to teach Life Science
